Effective May 1, 2009, if your blood alcohol level ranges between 0.05 and 0.08, you will have your driver's license suspended.
Unfortunately, not for as long as I would like.
Your license will be suspended for 3 days, the first time you're caught.
Your license will be suspended for 7 days and you will have to take an alcohol education program the second time you're caught.
Your license will be suspended for 30 days, you will have to complete an alcohol treatment program and you will have an ignition interlock condition placed on your license for six months.
Personally, I think the laws should be tougher.
There is no excuse for getting behind the wheel, if you've been drinking.
Usually, people go drinking with their buddies.
Why not have a designated driver, or call a friend to pick you up, or get in a cab?
Why not leave the car at home?
Imagine waking up the next morning in the hospital, or maybe not waking up at all?
Imagine waking up in the morning, and you've taken a life?
Is it worth it?
I think everyone knows someone whose life has been affected by a drunk driver.
If we keep pushing for stiffer laws, we may make a difference.
This is a step in the right direction.
