The Neighbourhood is Important ... but what about the neighbours?

The Neighbourhood is Important ... but what about the Neighbours?

What do their homes look like (curb appeal)?

Are you looking for a home, in a great neighbourhood?

Do you already live in a great neighbourhood, but the neighbours aren't so great?

Don't get me wrong - some of them are great people. It's their actions that aren't so great.

Do those people show pride of ownership?
Well, it seems once in a while, we come across some homeowners who just don't care.

The eaves is falling off ...; the garbage cans never leave the sidewalk...; the front lawn is full of garbage - not just before garbage day; this 'stuff' has a permanent home on the front lawn; and what's worse is that it's garbage that will never be removed.

We consider it garbage, but those people probably don't.  They are holding on to their 'treasures' on the front lawn, because they don't want to throw them out; and they have no more room in the house for them.

So what do you do?  What CAN you do?

This can bring down the value of your home and of your neighbourhood.

They can also make other people start caring less about their homes, and pretty soon, no one in the neighbourhood will care.

The City of Toronto has a department you can call, if you see the neighbours keeping garbage or anything else on the front lawn, which should not be there.   We are not allowed to have garbage on the front lawns, until the night before garbage pickup.

City Department:  Municipal Licensing & Standards
Property Standards ByLaw 629 -  ensure properties are maintained to a certain standard, which increases the quality of life in the City, and stalls decay of neighbourhoods

Municipal Licensing and Standards - City of Toronto:  416-392-3000

If the materials being 'stored' on the front or back lawns are a fire hazard, you can call your local fire department, and the fire department will look after having it removed.

Let's all work together to keep our neighbourhoods beautiful.

Let's help our neighbours show some pride of ownership - even if they need a little convincing.
