Toronto's High Park and catching up with my greatest accomplishment

High Park is Toronto's largest Park, and it is located within 15 minutes of downtown Toronto.  It is one of my favourites places to visit.  I love walking through all the walking trails/bike paths and I love all the surprises along the way, whether it be a splash of colour on a mostly green 'carpet', or a steel sculpture here and there, or the 'turtle' 'slow down' signs on the road ... wild flowers growing between the rocks; massive trees everywhere ... watching the sunlight make a little waterfall sparkle; watching children chase butterflies ...

On Friday, September 19th, I was mostly watching my son.  I used to bring him to the park when he was growing up.  Sometimes we rode our bikes, and sometimes we walked.  Sometimes we just visited the petting zoo ... and sometimes we drove there just to grab an ice cream, and eat it by the pond, watching the swans...

We have a ritual... usually on Fridays...
We try to grab lunch or dinner - just the two of us - and catch up.

I know I enjoy this these days, far more than he does, but he never complains and never tells me he'd rather be doing something else.  And as my house has been a construction zone/mess over the last few weeks, and we had no water, no gas, and no electricity on Friday, and had to be out of the house by 7 a.m., we decided to start with breakfast.

Then we thought we'd go get our exercise at High Park ... but before we got there, we decided we would start at the same place we used to start, when he was only 3 or 4 years old ... near the 'bridge', at the western side of the Lake...

and make our way towards CN Tower, to the East ...

We will walk with the ducks and the swans, from the 'bridge' above, towards the CN tower (directly above), and then we'll take our trip through High Park ... and I hope you enjoy this little 'trip' as much as I did ...

While waiting for the geese to catch up ... we played with the butterflies...

we watched some 'fishing'......

He was walking ahead of us, and was so thrilled to find some shade, he decided to rest.....  :)

(waiting for the swans, on the East side of the beach ....)

(We waited for the swans together ....)

 (and here they are....)

.... it was a very, very, very slow walk, but it gave us a chance to talk and 'smell the flowers' (in the rocks, by the water's edge).....

(I wonder how much longer he'll want to visit the Swans with me .....)

(Nevermind) .... Let's head on to High Park ....

Geese at High Park

We walked through the maze of paths, and back to the 'waterfall' ....

*new condos on ravine, backing into park...

We stopped in at the Farmer's Market .... but they weren't quite ready for us ....
We snapped some shots of what was already on display ...

.... we let them get organized, and went over to the cafe to grab something to drink ....

... we sipped our Perrier, and the little friendly bird came to visit at the table....

... but I wasn't fast enough to click, but still managed to get him on the tree, right above us ...

We arrived shortly after 9 a.m., after breakfast, and left shortly after 12:30...

We said goodbye to High Park again, and headed out to lunch.

We had dim sum in Chinatown ... and if you want to know what we had, you can visit a previous blog, where I SHOW you the great food at our favourite dim sum spot, in Spadina's Chinatown.

Toronto has great neighbourhoods ... High Park is one of my favourites, because my son and I spent (and spend) many hours there, throughout the years ... it's a special place for us.

You too can make it a special place for your Family; and with your friends, for get-togethers, etc ...
...or just by yourself, to pause, take a break from life - reflect -
...be part of nature and its sounds ...
...have a little peace and quiet and get away from the world.
